Congrats on this exciting time! Pregnancy comes with so many exciting and unknown feelings. And re-imagining your skincare routine may be one surprising change, as you still want to take care of yourself but also be mindful of healthy, safe products for your baby. Here at SKN BAR Rx, we have many skincare options available that are pregnancy safe, so you can continue to use safe and results driven products during your pregnancy journey. We will be breaking down what products to avoid while pregnant, as well as reviewing a handful of services you can receive that are pregnancy safe.
WHAT SERVICES CAN I GET?
Consultations:
A complimentary consultation at SKN BAR Rx is always a great way to start out. One of our licensed estheticians will start by taking photos of your skin using our Observ 520x Skin Analysis device and analyze the photos with you. Our complimentary consultation also includes time to review your current skincare routine and concerns. We can then develop a safe and effective skincare routine for you to follow throughout your pregnancy and afterwards while nursing.
Additionally, if you are planning to schedule treatments after baby, we suggest booking a consultation both during pregnancy and after your baby has arrived. Many of our treatments are also contraindicated during nursing, so depending on the treatment desired, you may need to plan it for after you are finished breastfeeding. Our team at SKN BAR Rx will ensure you are on a safe skincare and treatment plan during and after your pregnancy.

Microdermabrasion:
This exfoliating and resurfacing treatment is great for pregnant women looking for an exfoliating refresh. Microdermabrasion refreshes the skin and allows new skin cells to grow closer to the surface so product penetration is most optimal. You will leave your service with smooth, exfoliated skin with no downtime. The microdermabrasion service is safe because it is a simple and gentle process of removing the outer layer of dead skin using a suction with natural diamond tips. There are no invasive aspects or serum penetration involved in this service so it creates a perfect pregnancy safe service for you to enjoy.
Dermaplaning:
Dermaplaning is another great option for women who are pregnant. This treatment uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from the face to create a smooth, youthful and radiant surface. This blade removes the top layer of dead skin to improve product penetration.
HydraFacial:
Since the HydraFacial service does use several different serums and exfoliants, we perform the Signature HydraFacial treatment on our pregnant patients. Our Deluxe and Platinum facial use additional serums and boosters that are not pregnancy safe, so we will only be opting for the Signature HydraFacial service in this case, but don’t worry – you will still get the same glowing results using the low percentages of salicylic acid that the Signature HydraFacial offers.

SKN BAR Signature Facial:
Our Signature Facial utilizes the Ultraceuticals lactic or mandelic peel. Our licenses estheticians will assess your skin and determine which peel is best for you. Both the lactic and mandelic peels are pregnancy safe and are go-to peels for all our patients at SKN BAR Rx. Both the lactic and mandelic peels promote rejuvenated skin by clearing congestion, removing toxins and improving cell turnover.
Renewal Peel:
This facial includes the Ultraceuticals PHA peel which is pregnancy safe. This is the peel you have been looking for if you need a quick, no downtime peel to restore your skin. The PHA peel is a hydrating peel containing PHA, a new skin-identical acid that rejuvenates all skin types, including sensitive skin. This gentle peel boosts overall tone and texture, while helping to eliminate mild photo damage. Leaves your skin looking smoother and softer while refining pore size.
Schedule a Renewal Peel Facial here.
+ don’t forget you can add dermaplaning onto any of our services to exfoliate and expose smooth, youthful skin.
SKN BAR Rx provides services that are pregnancy safe but we still strongly suggest you receive your doctor’s approval to proceed with any skin care treatments and products while pregnant and nursing.

WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD I AVOID?
With so many rules and steps to follow while pregnant it can be stressful having to think about the skincare products you can and can’t use. To simplify this for you we have listed the ingredients that are common in skincare products and should be avoided during pregnancy:
- Retinol/Vitamin: Vitamin A usage can lead to dangerous birth defects
- High doses of salicylic acid
- Hydroquinone: This ingredient is a Class C drug, meaning that it is easily absorbed into the bloodstream and can affect your baby.
Make note of these products and set aside your skin care bottles that have these ingredients in them. Don’t worry, you can come back to these products after baby arrives and after nursing.
WHAT PRODUCTS ARE SAFE?
At SKN BAR Rx we carry many different skincare lines depending on your skin type and concerns that are pregnancy safe.
While it’s more well known that you must shelve your favorite wine (sorry!) during pregnancy, having to nix your trusted skin care products may come as a real shock. We completely understand, but all eyes are on your skincare products during your pregnancy for a good reason. Our team at SKN BAR Rx will help you find products that are safe during your pregnancy.
Whether you’re looking for a safe product to reverse an unwelcome skin change brought on by pregnancy (yes, unfortunately, they do happen) or you’re checking up on the safety of your current regimen, this breakdown will help you determine what a healthy pregnancy skincare routine looks like — as well as what specific ingredients to avoid.
Pregnancy Safe Ingredients:
- Mineral SPF to protect and prevent
- Products with less then 2% of salicylic and glycolic
- Vitamin C
- Niacinimaide
- Azeliac acid
At SKN BAR Rx, we also love the Ultraceuticals cosmeceutical skincare line since all products in the line are pregnancy safe (excluding the Ultra A range).
As always, review all skincare products and treatments with your doctor as well. We encourage you to also take the first step by scheduling a Skincare Consultation with one of our licensed estheticians.
