Terms like wellness, lifestyle, health, and well-being are being used more than ever before. And now there’s another term circling around in the health and beauty world—Medi spa. As we place more value on our health, the mere definition of what health is has evolved. It’s no longer just the lack of illness and disease, but a more robust state of our mental, physical, and emotional health being in sync. With the rise of social media, the desire to look and feel great is at the forefront of our minds.
Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies and its appearance and function is an indicator of our overall health. As we age our skin starts to deflate and deteriorate, both of which sound daunting right? The good news is both can be prevented and even reversed. Loss of moisture and volume, or deflation, can be counteracted by proper nutrition and internal hydration as well as a great moisturizer. Loss of skin tone and elasticity, or deterioration, is a result of stress, lack of exercise, and a poor diet. Water, diet, and exercise are the foundation for having healthy skin well into your 60s and beyond. It’s never too late to drink more water, move our bodies, and pay attention to the food that fuels us. Once the foundation is set, there are solutions like laser treatments and medical grade facials and products that can minimize wrinkles and bring back our youthful glow.
Which brings us to medi spas and what that term that keeps popping up means. A medical spa falls somewhere between a traditional spa with a relaxation focus and a medical clinic with a result focus. They are often referred to as a medical spa, medi spa, or med spa. In order to be considered a medical spa the clinic must be run by, overseen, or affiliated with a medical doctor. Much like a treatment plan your doctor may create for an injury or illness you have had, medi spa professionals provide a personalized plan for both in-office treatments and a home care regimen.

Traditional spas offer facials, massages, and body treatments, but at medical spas the focus is on anti-aging and visible results. High quality medical grade products and advanced procedures are utilized to treat concerns like brown spots, fine lines, redness, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, etc. Typical services medi spas will offer are Botox and other cosmetic injectables, microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing, laser hair removal, and medical grade peels. The actual gamut of services that is offered can vary greatly from one medi spa to another, which can be overwhelming to consumers. Often times there will be an initial consultation that can help the RN/Aesthetician determine the treatment plan that is best suited to our needs and the results we’re looking to see.
Taking care of ourselves and focusing on the foundations of health and wellness will keep us living a lifestyle that promotes great skin. The addition of a medi spa treatment plan and medical grade products can be that extra boost that keeps us looking and feeling great!
