You may have heard of a new trend called “baby Botox”. Baby botox in short is a trending version of traditional Botox. Other terms used are “micro-Botox” or “soft Botox”. Similar to traditional Botox, baby Botox treats specific facial areas. Traditional Botox can require up to 35 units or more providing a more dramatic result. With baby Botox you can use approximately 10 units of Botox in targeted micro-injections to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and when used as a preventative measure, Baby botox can help prevent wrinkles before they form. Let’s dive into what baby Botox is, the pros and cons to this treatment, and whether or not baby Botox could be a good fit for your aesthetic goals.
HOW DOES BABY BOTOX WORK?
Let’s first recap exactly what Botox is. Botox is a neurotoxin that focuses on modulating the interaction between the muscles and nerves responsible for controling the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Our fine lines and wrinkles are formed over time due to the repetitive muscle actions involved in frowning, squinting, smiling, and raising the eyebrows. Botox intervenes by temporarily reducing the muscle activity, thereby averting the development of these lines. Within several days, you’ll start to see a noticeable improvement in the smoothness of your brow, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Within two weeks, the full effect will settle in and last up to four months.
With that being said, baby Botox works the same as traditional Botox but with smaller doses of the neurotoxin. The effects are limited, with less dramatic results. Baby Botox works best on fine lines and provides a more natural look. The areas that are targeted include wrinkles on the forehead, jawbone, lips, crow’s feet, brow furrows, frown lines and neck. Minor side effects to Botox can include pain, swelling, headache, and flu-like symptoms.
WHO IS THE RIGHT CANIDATE FOR BABY BOTOX?
A good candidate for baby Botox is someone who may have never had Botox before and wants to try it out without wanting a “frozen” or “stiff” look, or, for someone with minimal wrinkles/fine lines. The lower units used will give a softer look without the patient feeling too frozen or overdone. Baby Botox is also a great option for patients age 20’s to 30’s who are looking for a preventative measure by receiving treatment before wrinkles start to appear.
PROS OF BABY BOTOX
The pros to baby Botox is that you have the ability to start with a smaller dosage if it is your first time receiving treatment. This will allow you to try out Botox without having the “frozen look.” Baby Botox can give a very natural, still expressive look which many patients enjoy. It’s also perfect for patients who may be a bit more nervous or apprehensive of receiving Botox for the first time. Baby Botox is a great “baby” step.
Another bonus to baby Botox is that it is more affordable since less Botox units are used. Being light on your wallet is definitely a perk for first time patients trying out neurotoxins.
CONS OF BABY BOTOX
Certainly, every approach has its drawbacks, but fortunately, when it comes to baby Botox, the downsides are quite minimal. The main downside to baby Botox is the variation of duration of the treatment. Since the Botox is being injected in smaller doses, your treatment results may not last as long as traditional Botox and you may have to come in sooner for maintenance treatment.
*At SKN BAR Rx we suggest a minimum of 3 months between your regular Botox treatments.

- Consultation: During the initial consultation, our nurse injectors will review your health history to ensure you are a good candidate for neurotoxin treatment.
- Collaboration: Based on your specific situation our nurse injector will work in collaboration with you to determine the dose of the neurotoxin depending on your desirable results.
- Downtime: The great thing with baby Botox is that there’s is no recovery time after treatment. Most patients can go back to work immediately after receiving the injections.
- Results: You can expect to see results in about a two weeks after the Botox has had time to settle in. These results can vary by lasting for 6-8 weeks to two to three months. Do keep in mind that the effects are not permanent and will wear off so we strongly suggest scheduling your routine apopintments in advance to ensure you are on a schedule.
BOTOX AFTERCARE AND HEALING
There are certain recommendations you should follow to minimize risk such as bruising. To minimize bruising from baby Botox, we suggested avoiding alcohol the day before treatment and refraining from taking blood thinners (Advil, Aspirin, NSAIDs) and fish oil/Vitamin E supplements for five days prior.
After the treatment, it is important to follow these neurotoxin rules:
- Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment
- Avoid rubbing the treatment area or applying pressure to the treated area for four hours (this includes no hats)
- Avoid receiving facial treatments for 2 weeks after your treatment
- Avoid extraneous exercises for the next 24-48 hours after treatment
